Frequently Asked Questions

Princeton Prep Preschool  | 504 Princeton Rd. Johnson City, Tennessee 423-283-4549

Choosing childcare is a big decision. We want you to feel comfortable asking questions and getting to know our school. Here are answers to some of the things families ask us most often.

Getting Started & Enrollment

1. What ages does Princeton Prep serve?

We offer care and early learning for infants, toddlers, and preschool-age children. Our team can help you identify the classroom that best fits your child’s age and developmental stage.

2. How can I schedule a tour?

Select “Schedule a Tour” on our website to choose a convenient time. A visit is the best way to see our classrooms, learn about daily routines, and ask questions specific to your child.

3. Do you currently have openings?

Availability changes as children enroll and move between classrooms. Please contact us or schedule a tour for the most current openings and possible start dates.

4. What are your hours?

Princeton Prep is open Monday through Friday, from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Our office can provide information about holidays and planned closures.

5. How much is tuition?

Our current weekly planning rates are $285 for infants, $250 for toddlers, and $195 for preschool. Please confirm the applicable rate, fees, and enrollment terms with our office before enrolling.

Starting School & Transitions

6. How do you help a child transition into a new preschool?

We know a new classroom, new teachers, and new routines can feel like a big change. We encourage families to share what comforts their child, including familiar routines and interests. Our teachers work to build trust, offer reassurance, and help children become comfortable at their own pace.

7. What if my child cries at drop-off or has separation anxiety?

Tears at drop-off are common, especially during the first days or weeks. We respond with patience, comfort, and a predictable routine. We also encourage parents to communicate with teachers about what helps their child feel secure.

8. Can we visit before my child’s first day?

A scheduled tour is a good first step. If your family would benefit from another opportunity to become familiar with the classroom before enrollment, ask our office what can be arranged.

9. How do children move from one age group or classroom to another?

Classroom transitions are based on factors such as age and development. We aim to make changes thoughtfully and communicate with families about the new environment and expectations.

10. What if my child has never been in group childcare before?

That is completely normal. Teachers help children learn classroom routines gradually, including group activities, meals, play, and rest. Sharing your child’s preferences and previous experiences helps us support the adjustment.

A Typical Day at Princeton Prep

11. What does a typical preschool day look like?

Children participate in a balance of age-appropriate learning, creative activities, indoor and outdoor play, meals, and rest. Specific schedules vary by classroom and age group.

12. Do children have nap or quiet time?

Rest is an important part of the day. Rest routines differ by age but are typically from 12:00 - 2:30 Daily, and our staff can explain the expectations for your child’s classroom. Infants follow safe sleep practices appropriate to their age.

13. What if my child is not potty trained yet?

Toileting needs vary with age and development. Please discuss your child’s current routine with our team so we can explain the expectations and support available in the appropriate classroom.

14. Do you provide meals and snacks?

Meals and snacks are part of our daily school routine. Ask our office for the current menu and information about any food or supplies your family should provide.

15. How much outdoor play do children get?

Outdoor play is a valued part of our program when conditions allow. The amount and timing depend on the age group, weather, and the classroom’s daily schedule.

Safety, Learning & Communication

16. How do you keep children safe and supervised?

Child supervision and age-appropriate classroom ratios are central to our daily operations. Our team follows applicable childcare requirements and school safety procedures. We welcome questions about the practices relevant to your child’s classroom.

17. How will I know how my child is doing during the day?

Communication between families and teachers matters to us. We use parent communication tools and direct conversations to share information about children’s experiences and needs. Our office can explain the current app and communication procedures.

18. What if my child has allergies or special care needs?

Please let us know about allergies, dietary restrictions, medications, or other needs before your child starts. We will discuss the required documentation and whether we can safely provide the requested accommodations.

19. How do you prepare children for kindergarten?

Our preschool activities support language, early literacy and math concepts, independence, social skills, problem-solving, and confidence. We believe school readiness includes learning to participate, communicate, and build relationships—not simply memorizing facts.
